"We were hungry before we were born" est une vanité, s’inscrivant dans la continuité du genre qui invite à méditer sur le caractère fugace de la vie, la fuite du temps.

Sur une surface rectangulaire blanche, brillante, immaculée, s’y trouve soclé un crâne humain.

Sa cavité à été dorée à la feuille d’or, mettant en lumière un relief rhizomique et accidenté, et plaçant la « préciosité » à l’intérieur du crâne.

Memento mori symbolise science, richesse, puissance, beauté, fragilité, destruction, et triomphe de la mort.

Le titre, We were hungry before we were born, renvoie à une forme de constat, de résilience ou de sursaut, face à un avenir qui semble déjà dressé.
